| CPS Resource Centre – Oct. 2021 |
The CartoPhilatelic Society Resource Centre (RC) is now open. The RC is a new members only password protected service from the CartoPhilatelic Society.
This new website site has redesigned the access to the Society’s Journal Archives. The main feature of the RC is the ever-growing list of indispensable reference citations – submitted by you, our members – to aid in cartophilatelic research. An expanded list of internet links as well as a section for RC Projects is being planned.
Member Lloyd Field has volunteered to be the Resource Curator and will be your point of contact when you submit new reference citations, links, and content to the RC.
The RC site can be accessed using the CPS Resource Centre link under the “Resources” menu option. Once you access the RC site you can bookmark for easy access. Access credentials for the RC can be found on the last page of the October issue of TNCP No. 75 and is a service for current members of the CartoPhilatelic Society. If you have any questions, please use the contact form.

Index CartoPhilatelica is an exciting new resource from the CartoPhilatelic Society. Compiled by fellow cartophilatelist and CPS Officer Brian Marshall, of New Zealand, this multi-year project set out to develop a comprehensive subject and personal reference index to the Carto-Philatelist and The New CartoPhilatelist journals. Index CartoPhilatelica contains indexed content from all the issues of the Carto-Philatelist (1955-03 through 1995-12) and issues of The New CartoPhilatelist (2003-03 through 2020-07 [No. 70]). An announcement for Index CartoPhilatelica appeared in the January (No. 72) edition of The New CartoPhilatelist. A digital (PDF) version of the index is now ready for download on the Index CartoPhilatelica web page. [ “Index CartoPhilatelica is an open resource that will soon become an indispensable tool for research projects by both members of the CartoPhilatelic Society as well as philatelists outside of the group.” – Mark Honig, President, the CartoPhilatelic Society. ]

Martin Oakes
Retirement |
After many years of service, Martin Oakes must relinquish his position as Editor of The New CartoPhilatelist (TNCP) Journal. In a group such as ours, the journal is the lifeline, the major method to communicate with members, to share research, to keep up- to-date. Martin did an outstanding job for all these years; he will be missed and will be hard to replace. Martin took over as Editor with the April 2008 edition. Over the ensuing 12 years, he edited an amazing 50 issues. He dedicated countless hours to assembling these issues, as well as contributing articles when there was insufficient material available. Martin was born in London, England and like many of us, Martin started collecting stamps at a young age, then put collecting aside as he pursued his education and began his work career. A friend at one of his jobs re-introduced him to stamp collecting and for over 50 years he specialized in Great Britain, a collection that grew to 40 volumes. Martin and his wife relocated to the United States in the late 1960s when he accepted a position with a major electronics company in Indianapolis, Indiana. During this working years he developed an interest in map stamps and joined the CartoPhilatelic Society. When the group was revived in 2003, he was invited to help design the logos we now use and wrote an article for TNCP 1, “Oh, What a Relief It Is.” The Society and its members were privileged to have Martin as our Editor for so long. Please join us in congratulating him for contributions to cartophilately and our Society. Thank you Martin and best wishes!
Checklist Editor David Wolfersberger has been busy working to finalize a major update of the Maps on Stamps Checklist and he is happy to report the new update is ready to ship.
This update includes the addition of over 700 new or previously overlooked issues, numerous corrections, and the addition of missing data such as catalogue numbers, coverage and grade. The updated Checklist has over 40,000 entries.
Revision 9 contains all Checklist Updates through 2020 MoS Checklist Update 01 as posted on our website.
The Cumulative Table of Contents (CTC) listings, compiled by our European Representative Volker Woesner, which first were made available on the CPS web site in early 2017, have been updated. The listing for TNCP is now current through 2019/07. In addition to the PDF format, Excel files for both TNCP and original the CartoPhilatelist listings are now freely available for download.
